Change the speed of a video

Make a video faster or slower, from a quarter speed to four times as fast. Voices can keep their pitch, so they sound natural. It is done in your browser and never uploaded.

How to change the speed of a video

  1. Open a video, or drop it on the page.
  2. Pick a speed, or type your own, and choose what happens to the sound.
  3. Select Change speed, then save the new video.

From slow motion to time-lapse

Pick 0.25× or 0.5× to slow a moment down, or 2×, 3× or 4× to get through a long recording, a tutorial or a drive. Any speed between 0.1× and 8× can be typed in. The new length is shown before you start.

Natural voices at any speed

With Keep the pitch, the sound is time-stretched: it gets faster or slower without becoming high or deep, so speech stays easy to follow. Pitch follows changes the sound like a tape, and No sound leaves it out.

Correct timing, on your device

Every frame gets its new time, so the video plays at the right speed in every player, and the sound is made exactly as long as the picture. All of it happens in your browser; the video is never uploaded.

Questions about Change speed

Is my video uploaded?

No. The speed is changed in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server.

How do I make a slow-motion video?

Pick 0.5× or 0.25×. The frames are shown longer, so a video filmed at a high frame rate, such as 120 or 240 frames per second, looks smoothest.

Will voices sound like chipmunks?

Not with Keep the pitch, the default: the sound is stretched without changing its pitch. Choose Pitch follows if you want that effect.

What happens to the frame rate when I speed up?

The video keeps up to 60 frames per second. At high speeds some frames are left out, which looks the same on screen and keeps the file small.

Can I play a video backwards?

Not yet; this tool changes the speed only.
