How to trim a video

  1. Open a video, or drop it on the page.
  2. Play or drag to the moment you want, and set the start and the end.
  3. Select Trim video, then save the shorter video.

Fast, with no loss of quality

By default the trim copies the compressed video as it is, so it takes seconds even for long videos and the picture is exactly the same. The file then begins at the keyframe before your start and is marked to play from your start time, which most players and apps follow.

Frame-exact when you need it

Turn on Cut exactly at these times and the part is re-encoded so it starts and ends right where you set it. It takes longer, and the quality stays high.

Private, like every Scissor tool

The video is trimmed in your browser tab. It is never uploaded, so it is safe for family videos, meetings and anything else you would rather keep to yourself.

Questions about Trim video

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is read and trimmed in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

Does trimming lower the quality?

Not by default: the video is copied without re-encoding. With Cut exactly at these times it is re-encoded at a high quality.

Why does my trimmed video start a little early in some players?

Without re-encoding, a video can only begin at a keyframe, which comes every second or two. The file is marked to start playing at your start time, but a few players ignore that. Turn on Cut exactly at these times for a frame-exact file.

Which formats can I trim?

MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV. The trimmed video keeps the original's format where it can, or is saved as MP4.

Can I cut out a part in the middle?

This tool keeps one part. To remove a part in the middle, or join several parts, use the video editor: split the clip and delete what you do not want.
