MP4, WebM or MOV
MP4 with H.264 plays on every phone, computer, TV and website. WebM with VP9 and Opus is the open format for the web. MOV is the QuickTime format Apple's apps like best. MKV, MOV, MP4 and WebM files can all be opened.
Copied when it can be, encoded when it must
A container is only the box around the video. When the video inside already suits the new format, as when an iPhone MOV becomes an MP4, it is copied as it is in seconds. When it does not, as for WebM, it is encoded again with your browser's own encoder.
Nothing leaves your device
The conversion happens in your browser tab. The video is never uploaded, so there is nothing to wait for and no copy on anyone's server.
Questions about Convert video
Is my video uploaded?
No. It is converted in your browser and never sent to a server.
How do I convert MOV to MP4?
Open the MOV file, choose MP4 and select Convert. iPhone videos are usually copied without re-encoding, so it takes seconds and the quality stays the same.
How do I convert WebM to MP4?
Open the WebM file, choose MP4 and select Convert. The VP8 or VP9 video is encoded again as H.264, which plays everywhere.
Does converting lower the quality?
Not when the video can be copied. When it has to be encoded again, the tool uses a high quality, so the difference is hard to see.
Can it convert MKV?
Yes, MKV files with common codecs can be opened and saved as MP4, WebM or MOV.
