How to mute a video

  1. Open a video, or drop it on the page.
  2. Check the preview and the format.
  3. Select Remove the sound, then save the silent video.

The picture stays exactly the same

The sound is a separate track in the file. Removing it leaves the video untouched: it is copied bit for bit, so even a long 4K video takes only seconds.

Ready for your own music

Remove background noise, wind or conversations before you post a clip, or before you add music in an app or in the video editor.

Private by design

The video is read and saved again in your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, so nobody else ever hears the sound you are removing.

Questions about Mute video

Is my video uploaded?

No. The sound is removed in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

Does muting change the picture?

No. The video is copied without re-encoding, so it is identical to the original.

Can I keep the sound as a separate file?

Yes: use Extract audio to save the sound as MP3, M4A or WAV.

Which formats can I mute?

MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV. The silent video keeps the original's format where it can.
